Velox B's 29 - Port Alberni  21

- written by Meic the Welshman

The Beavers faced appalling weather conditions for our road trip to Port Alberni, who were on a high after a win vs Oak Bay the previous week.

Port is big, strong, and physical in the forwards; opposite in the backs. So, our strategy for this match was to spin the ball to the backs and let our pace score points. This was going to be a very physical game for our forwards, lighter but faster than their counterparts.

Sean was on kicking duty and put us 3 points up after 5 minutes. This was followed by a try for kiwi Aaron (Barney or no-bra). Our heads were up. Every time Velox scored though, Port answered back with some good kicking from their prop forward. Sean only missed one conversion for the game.

Port's forwards were punishing our line time and time again - the referee at times let advantage go as Port's forwards had the momentum - some 11 or 12 phases later Port drove our defense back over our line to score. Velox was always 1 try ahead of Port.

A superb Kokanee move sent Aaron crashing through the middle to pass to Kevan doing his no.7 job superbly well and scoring the try. Port replied once again with a penalty.

Our lineouts were working well - every lineout was competed by both sides - Eric/Boner/Luke and Ginger all superb in the battle. 2nd half saw Port come at us with everything their forwards had - quick stolen ball from Sean set up the backs with Dale crashing through the middle of the posts with no-one to stop him.

The wind was blowing and the rain kept coming, but Velox was not letting this one slip. Mountains of forward dominance from Port led them to another rolling try. Stale mate around the half way line - quick ball was fed to the Welshman - he dummied his whole team (and Port's), ran round the back into space, then drew covering defense to feed Heyzoos who sped over the line for the try.
This was our cushion for the 29-20 win that we wanted. Man of the Match - Welshman. Working Man  of the game - Jeff (no.2).

Velox Jr Women (Maidens) 7 - Nanaimo 40

- written by Kim Coyle

The Velox Maidens (Jr) women were set to play a game of 10's in Nanaimo due to Nanaimo's "lack of numbers". Although we didn't win we had a good fight. We have learned an important lesson that will lead us to victory in the future.  Well fought ladies, looking forward to seeing Nanaimo in the quarter finals.

Velox Sr. Women (Valkyries) 60 - Meralomas 0

- written by Kim Coyle

The Velox Valkyries (Sr) women played against the Meralomas. Great game - another shutout for the ladies. Defence was flat, offense was great.

Getting the ball out to our winger seems a great game plan. Jess scored 5 tries, Sarah Leveson 1, Sue 1 and a beautiful kick that led to a breakaway by Wookie, and Swiebe was the last to score.
